LOCAL STUDENTS HEAD TO BOYS STATE

Eleven young men from Washington County will be headed to Texas Boys State next week.

Boys State is being held at the University of Texas in Austin next Monday through Friday.

Local student attendees include: Allen Schwartz, sponsored by Legion Post 48; Jaimie Galindo, of the Rotary Club of Washington County; Caleb Harmel, from Burton American Legion Post 242; Seth Diggs, sponsored by the Sons of Hermann Lodge No. 6; Trace Adler, from Elks Lodge No. 979; Zachary Poston, the Noon Lions Club; Mason Taing, of the Brenham Evening Lions Club; Devin Blythe, sponsored by Hubert Masonic Lodge No. 67; Jacob Gray, of the Brenham Rotary Club; Rhead Robbins, from Graham Masonic Lodge No. 20; and Blane Ashorn, sponsored by the Republican Party of Washington County.

This is the 78th year for Boys State, started and sponsored by the American Legion, to help develop knowledgeable citizens and leaders of the future with a learn-by-doing program that teaches how government functions.

Local organizers said sponsors give Brenham and Burton the ability to send more candidates to Boys State than most other counties with greater student enrollment.
