LOCAL TAX REBATES REPORTED MUCH HIGHER

Local sales tax rebates were all much higher for Brenham, Burton and Washington Counties for December, according to Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar.

The reports come from quarterly business filers from December, as well as October, November and December.

Brenham access a one cent sales tax, and received $647,293, a 14.7 percent increase over a year ago, which amounted to $564,433.

The City’s rebates this year has totaled $1,134.983 so far this year, which is up 10.3 percent over the same time last year.

Washington County assesses a one half percent sales tax, which brought in $275,898, up 14.5 percent from February 2014 total of $240,792.

Burton’s payment is up this month, paying $4,306, up 26.4% from the previous year rebate of $3406. Burton’s rebates for the year are $6,474, up 17.4% from 2014’s $5,512. Burton assess a one cent sales tax.

Hegar says that overall state sales tax revenue was $2.56 billion, which is up 11.2% compared to February of last year, and he believes the sales tax revenues were led by business spending, and believes that despite the recent decline in oil prices, receipts from the oil and natural gas mining sector was also strong.
