LOCAL TEACHER RECEIVES STATE WIDE AWARD

  

Diana Kohring, science teacher at Brenham Junior High School was presented with a 2016 Excellence in Teaching Award at the Texas Regional Collaboratives (TRC) Annual Meeting in Austin, June 21. Education Service Center Region 6 Science Collaborative Co-Project Directors Susan Bohan, and Danna Mitschke nominated Kohring for successfully preparing students for the rigor of a science curriculum through innovative thinking, an inspiring approach to teaching, as well as authentic professionalism.KOHRING AWARDE
“Diana has been described as a teacher who is ‘always thinking and planning science’” said Carol Fletcher, PhD, deputy director of the UT Austin Center for STEM Education. “Her desire and passion for teaching radiates to all the students in her classroom as well as with her peers. She keeps her students attuned to the cutting edge of technology integration and instructional techniques. Her best qualities include her willingness to share ideas, collaborate and put forth unwavering effort for the improvement of science education for all.”

TRC is an award-winning statewide network of 62 P-16 partnerships (Regional Collaboratives) that provide sustained and high intensity professional development to P-12 teachers of science and mathematics across Texas. This infrastructure of more than 40 institutions of higher education collaborating with the Texas Education Agency, Education Service Centers, school districts, and business partners has a 25-year track record of designing and implementing exemplary professional development using research-based instructional models, materials, and best practices.
