LOIS KOLKHORST GIVES HER TAKE ON RANEY BILL

State Senator Bill Raney has introduced a bill that would allocate Blinn's funding based on student contact hours. State Senator Lois Kolkhorst, who represents the Blinn College campuses, disagrees with the numbers put forth by Raney, believing that the numbers are erroneous.

Kolkhorst believes that the Brenham campus should not bear the cost of running the entire Blinn system, and explains her reason for this.

Raney believes that since 70 percent of the students attend the Bryan campus, that the majority of the money should go there.

Blinn has received 26.9 million dollars in the last fiscal year, and Kolkhorst noted that Washington County is the only county that uses property taxes for Blinn College’s operations.

Kolkhorst says that she wishes all the campuses to grow together, and will look out for indiscrepancies, but those decisions are up to the Board of Trustees.

Kolkhorst says that she is excited about the new Bryan campus

There are also rumors in the legislature that would exlude Waller County from the Blinn College Service area, but Kolkhorst says that is all just in the works at this time.
