LONGTIME BRENHAM POLICE OFFICER PASSES AWAY

  

Larry Klehm, a longtime Brenham Police Officer, passed away in Bryan today (Friday).qtq80-GtwWmP

Klehm served with the Brenham Police Department and Washington County Sheriff’s Office for 24 years. He retired from the Brenham Police Department on July 31st, 2000.

In Klehm’s professional career as a peace officer, he had a passion for protecting and serving his community, especially working on narcotic cases. He worked undercover all over the State of Texas. He was known as the leader of the 6 drug operations, known as “BAD”- Brenham against Drugs. In addition to these accomplishments, Klehm was the task force commander of the Independence Narcotic Task Force, which was instrumental in filing several thousands of drug cases.

Klehm was born on July 26th, 1946 to Ora Nell Ludwig Klehm and Willie Fredrick Klehm of Brenham. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem. Klehm helped his father on the farm and then went to work at the central prison unit in Sugarland. He was drafted by the U.S. Army where he met his future wife, Karen Grace Keller of Louisville, Kentucky. They were married at Fort Huachuca in Sara Vista, Arizona on October 21st, 1972. On February 13th, 1974 they welcomed their first son, Jesse Allan Klehm, into the world in Stuttgart, Germany. Larry and Karen were honorably discharged from the Army after 10 years of service. They returned to Brenham, where Larry was hired by the Brenham Police Department on December 6th, 1976. On August 3rd, 1982 they welcomed their second son, Seth Fred Klehm into the world in Brenham.

Services for Larry Wayne Klehm will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg. Memorials can be made to Hospice Brazos Valley.
