  1. Mr. Pettie, was a very good man and when he spoke everyone would know it because of his voice and the meaning behind his words. He was my church member as well he will be truly missed. My father would often tell me stories about Mr. Pettie and the nickname they gave him but strictly told me not to call him that. I never understood as a child why they called you chief but now as a adult I understand that you was a leader. You now have retired your hat rest now.

  2. Mr. Pettie was not only my high school math instructor he was also my Sunday School teacher. In high school and Sunday School his advice and point of view was on point and well respected. I remember in my senior year he taught a 6th period math class for college bound students. Approximately seven male students were in the class. He began the class each day by saying “well fellas it’s time for some mental gymnastics.” Those in that class have never forgotten those words. He was a pillar of the community and will definitely be missed. Ira Evans Jr. Class of ’66 – Pickard High School

I remember Mr. Pettie well!! We lost a truly fine teacher.
I bet he’s in heaven telling some young man right now to:
“put your shirt tail in, mister!! ”
    R.I.P Mr. Pettie.

  4. I worked with Mr. Pettie for years. Did a great job, related well with teachers and students. A real blessing to BISD. RIP

  5. In the early 80’s, Mr. Pettie seemed “petty” worrying about guys and gals holding hands or standing close to each other, running late for class, a curse word or a sloppy appearance. Now, i look back and see that he was the gold standard. His high moral standards were needed then and even more so today. He was consistent and firm, yet fair. He knew we needed discipline, even when we didn’t realize it. Mr. Pettie ran a tight ship. He had an extraordinary passion about fulfilling his responsibilities. I’m sorry to hear of his passing. They just don’t make them like him anymore. I’m blessed to have had him as a role model at an impressionable time in my life. Rest in peace Mr. Pettie. Thank you sir.

  6. Sorry for your loss. Prayers going out to the family. I knew him from Brenham High School. He was a great guy!! I was the Class of 1978.

  7. One of the best teachers I ever had. A huge loss for our communitee. I will not forget him.

  8. Mr Pettie, my patient, my surrogate grandpa, you were my first patient to treat at dialysis. You had my heart from the beginning & I looked forward to seeing you every day. You will be missed, but remembered fondly and respected. You have a piece of my heart & all of us at DaVita. Rest easy, Mr. Pettie. May the Lord Bless your family.
    All my Love and Blessings,
