LOW TURNOUT EXPECTED FOR TODAY’S CONSTITUTIONAL ELECTION
A low voter turnout is expected locally Tuesday for the 2017 state constitutional amendment election.
Turnout for early voting in Washington County was ‘extremely light’, with just 424 ballots cast – which is less than two-percent of the county’s 22,656 registered voters.
There are seven proposed amendments on the ballot.
- No. 1 — Authorizes a tax exemption for property of partially disabled veterans.
- No. 2 — Eases restrictions on borrowing against home equity in Texas.
- No. 3 — Determines how long appointed officers may serve after their term expires.
- No. 4 — Requires court provided notice to the attorney general of a challenge to a statute.
- No. 5 — Would give more professional sports team-connected foundations the ability to hold charitable raffles.
- No. 6 — Would authorize property tax exemption for surviving spouses of first responders killed in line of duty.
- No. 7 — Authorizes financial institutions to offer bonuses to customers.
