M.E. RULES A&M FRATERNITY DEATH “ACCIDENTAL”

Officials with the Brazos County Sheriff's Office say they have closed the case on the death of a 20-year-old Texas A&M student who died at an off-campus fraternity house late last year.

The Travis County Medical Examiner has officially ruled the death of Sigma Phi Epsilon member, Matthew Hayes an accident.

According to the medical examiner, it was a lethal cocktail of drugs and alcohol that claimed his life.

The examiner noted Hayes had high levels of hydrocodone and other drugs in his system…which the examiner said can cause sudden and unexpected death.

Hayes was found unresponsive in his bedroom at the fraternity house last December. Records show he was alone when he died.

Investigators found a text message on Hayes phone, asking a friend how to get hydrocodone.

The toxicology report also said Hayes had 16 times the toxic level of hydrocodone in his system.

The sheriff's office closed its investigation, but couldn't say whether charges would be filed in the future.
