MAN ARRESTED FOR AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

A married couple’s dispute and a ride to a convenience store led to an arrest for aggravated assault causing bodily injury and domestic violence charges against a 44-year old Brenham man, last (Monday) night.

Brenham police responded to the scene at the Pennysaver Store in the 100 block of East Blue Bell Road just after 10pm.

Witnesses said an angry confrontation was in progress between three people.

Brenham police officer Kevin Mertz came to the scene and stopped a man trying to flee the scene.

He told 44-year old Patrick Darnell Bennett to get out of the pickup truck.  Mertz did a pat down search on Bennett and found a small pocket knife, that he allegedly threatened his wife with.

Bennett’s wife told the officer that she was having trouble with her husband and needed a ride to the store.  She said her husband came to the Pennysaver store soon afterwards and punched the man who had given her a ride in the stomach.

Bennett was arrested and charged with aggravated assault causing bodily injury and domestic violence.  Bennett has previous convictions, enhancing the charge to a second degree felony with a maximum punishment of up to 20 years in prison.
