A Brenham man has been arrested after he was found sleeping in a public downtown restroom, over the weekend.

Sunday morning, just after midnight, Corporal Joseph Merkley conducted a bathroom check of public restrooms in the 100 Block of West Alamo Street after numerous complaints.

Two persons were found sleeping inside.  One of the two, 56-year old Ricky White of Brenham had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

White was arrested for a DWI 2nd Offense warrant out of Grimes County.

He was taken into custody.

  1. Feeling safe and being safe are two different things. Just because a man who is homeless, who found a warm place to sleep doesnt make him someone to fear. This “beautiful” downtown could use a lot of self reflection.

    1. Neither does it make him NOT someone to fear. Many a good person turns to crime when backed into a corner by desperation.
I saw a woman with a cardboard sign begging for money by Walmart on Christmas Eve. The sign said something about her 2 kids. She wasn’t there long. I wonder if she got a visit from our great PD. Just like I don’t want to see debt consolidation and quick weight loss signs nailed to light poles, I don’t want to be shamed into giving money to someone who may be using it for drugs or alcohol.
The resources they need have to come from local charities to confirm the need. Support our local charities.

  2. As our city grows everything will grow. That is just part of the transition. Government regulations grow. Crime grows. Traffic grows. DWI grows. Property Taxes grow. Animal Control grows. Utility costs grow. Property costs grow. Vagrant activity grows. Congratulations to all the political growth supporters and citizen growth supporters.

  3. Thank you BPD! At least they have a warm place to sleep now. Prayers they will get the help they may need.

  4. Glad BPD is on this! Past month I have seen 2 bums hanging out around the downtown bathrooms. I would hate for our beautiful downtown to not feel safe. Thank you BPD
