MAY UNEMPLOYMENT RATE UP SLIGHTLY FROM APRIL

The May unemployment rate in Washington County rose slightly from April, registering at 3.9%, up .04% from April’s rate of 3.5%, and is down from May 2014, when the unemployment rate for the county was 4.4%.

The slightly higher numbers account for high school and college kids looking for jobs during the summer, but do not yet reflect the recent layoffs experienced in the area.

Clint Kolby, Project Manager of the Brenham Economic Development Foundation tells of when he thinks the numbers will reflect this event.

In Austin County, the May unemployment rate is 4.1%, up .03 % from April’s rate of 3.8%, but less that the 4.7% from May of 2014.

In Burleson County, the May unemployment rate was 4.1%, up 0.3% from 3.8% in April, and down -06% from May 2014 rate of 4.7 percent.

The unemployment rate for the Brazos Valley for May is 3.6% down .02%, compared to April’s rate of 3.4%, and down -06% of 4.2% for April of 2014.
