MCCAUL CALLS FOR MORE BORDER SECURITY IN CRISIS

Members of the Texas congressional delegation are weighing in on the surge of unaccompanied children from Central America into Texas.
District 10 U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul, who represents Brenham and Washington County said on CNN last (Tuesday) night that President Obama ignored his calls to increase border security last year and that is part of the reason the children are now crossing the border.. Congressman McCaul said he realized, especially after his recent visit to the border, that there are many horrible stories of brutality, fear and persecution and those cases can and will be dealt with but the surge of children will continues until the border is tightened up.

Congressman Michael McCaul says we need to start sending the children from Central America back as a deterrent.

McCaul’s press secretary Mike Rosen said that the local congressman is still considering President Obama’s request for $3.7 million to help in this crisis. Rosen said however, that McCaul was an ‘accountability guy’ and probably would not support any measure without ‘metrics to determine the success of border security efforts.’”
Congressman McCaul is the chair of the House Homeland Security Committee.
Neighboring Congressman Bill Flores told KBTX news this (Wednesday) morning. He was concerned, as is Congressman McCaul, that the president is within an hour flight of the border but he has no plans to go there and view the crisis for himself.
Congressman Henry Cuellar of Laredo has expressed similar concerns, saying the president needs to come to the border to avoid what he called ‘a Katrina moment.’
