McCAUL RELEASES BORDER SECURITY PLAN

Local U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul has released a proposal to secure the Texas/Mexico border.

McCaul, chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, titled his proposal, “Blueprint for Southern Border Security.”

McCaul says securing the borders is a national security issue, and the U.S.  must identify the threats and be able to respond quickly.

McCaul says his proposal matches resources and capabilities to needs on the southern border, which he says will allow Border Patrol agents to gain complete visibility—which he says is the first step to providing a secure border.

The proposal maps out sector-by-sector recommendations on resource allocation and capability improvements to achieve full situational awareness of the border.

In addition to gaining situational awareness, the proposal also calls for:

--developing outcome-based means to measure border security,

--bolstering interior enforcement,

--increasing coordination between federal, state and local efforts,

--creating a new command and control structure,

--and engaging the U.S.’s international partners.
