MEMORIAL FUND SET UP FOR FLOODING VICTIM

A memorial fund has been set up for one of the victims of last week’s storms, who drowned after he was swept away by flood waters.

The Darren Mitchell Memorial Fund has been established at Citizens State Bank–Somerville. Donations can also be made at the branches in Brenham, Caldwell, Deanville, Navasota and Snook or by mail to P.O. Box 1145, Caldwell, Texas 77836.

Mitchell was a 2013 graduate of Brenham High School who died when his truck was overturned by rushing water on Highway 105 just outside Brenham.

Mitchell’s body was found Saturday, about a mile from where his truck overturned.

While in high school, he joined the ROTC and became a member of the Army National Guard after graduating.

The memorial fund was established to help ease some of the family’s financial burden “and that a memorial can be established so he is not forgotten,” according to the statement.
