MILL CREEK WATERSHED MEETING NEXT TUESDAY

The public is invited to attend the Mill Creek Watershed Partnership meeting on November 1st in Bellville.

The Mill Creek watershed is the geographic area in which all surface water flows into Mill Creek. This includes about 400 square miles from Burton to where the West and East forks of Mill Creek begin, and continues southeast past Bellville terminating at the Brazos River.  Mill Creek was placed on the Texas 303(d) List in 2010, due to elevated levels of bacteria.

In 2014, the Mill Creek Watershed Partnership was formed by stakeholders who wished to take voluntary actions to improve water quality. The Partnership worked with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board to develop a watershed protection plan.  The plan outlines a strategy to implement management measures that will reduce nonpoint source pollution in the watershed.

This meeting will provide an update on the status of the Mill Creek Watershed Protection Plan, including implementation activities identified in the plan. There will also be an open discussion on the priority and feasibility of activities, determining necessary resources to take action, and desired educational opportunities.

The meeting will take place at the First National Bank and Civic Center, located at 100 E Main St. in Bellville at 6:30 p.m.
