MOCK NAMED TABC ASSISTANT COACH OF THE YEAR

A former Blinn player, Mock just completed her second year as assistant

Blinn College women’s basketball coach Brateicka Mock recently was named the 2016-17 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) assistant coach of the year for the junior college level at the TABC Clinic in San Antonio.

Mock, a Navasota High School graduate and two-time Don Wilhelm Award winner during her Buccaneer playing days, just completed her second season as assistant coach for the Buccaneers. Last year, head coach Jeff Jenkins was named the TABC junior college coach of the year.

“Coach Mock was such a great player and was named all-conference and all-region during her freshman and sophomore seasons here at Blinn,” Jenkins said. “However, as great as a player as she was, she was an even better person. It has been a true blessing being able to see her coach the last two years.”

Mock helped guide Blinn to the Division I National Tournament in her first season. Blinn has qualified for the Region XIV Tournament in both her seasons on the coaching staff.

“Winning assistant coach of the year caught me off-guard, but it was exciting to win,” Mock said. “The hours you put in as an assistant coach are tough, but it is rewarding to see the players progress and then get emails from them thanking me for the work I put in.”

Mock went on to play at Lamar University following her two seasons at Blinn as a player.

“Coach Mock is an even better coach than she was a player,” Jenkins said. “She not only teaches the players fundamentals every day but also teaches how to be a good person. She is a great leader and truly deserves this award.”

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
