MOELLER FAMILY DONATES OVER $98,000 FOR BLINN SCHOLARSHIPS
The Waldo E. Moeller Foundation demonstrated its generosity and commitment to education with a $98,610 gift funding five endowed scholarships that will benefit workforce education and high-achieving academic students at Blinn College.
The gift will support two workforce and three academic scholarships.
“The Waldo E. Moeller Foundation was established by the will of my father,” said Diane Pieper, foundation trustee and Moeller’s daughter. “Because my father’s career success was in the electrical trade, and he was a great supporter of the A.W. Hodde, Jr., Technical Education Center, the donation will be split between academic and workforce scholarships.”
Moeller, who passed away in 2012, started Waldo Moeller Electric in 1951. The name was later changed to Moeller Electric Company and continues to be operated by Diane and Lloyd Pieper. Waldo and his wife Edna were strong supporters of Blinn College and primary contributors to the Hodde Center and the MRW Studio Theatre in the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center.
Five generations of the Moeller/Weiss family have attended Blinn College. Moeller was a graduate of Blinn following World War II, and served on the advisory board of the Hodde Center until the time of his death. In 2003, Waldo and Edna were honored in the first Blinn College Hall of Honor.
The two workforce scholarships will give preference to constructed-related trades like electrical, air conditioning, plumbing, or general construction. Half the scholarship will be awarded to the student at the start of class and the remainder will be given at the end of class.
“This generous gift given by the late Waldo Moeller will lighten the financial burden on numerous Blinn students by allowing them to focus on learning,” said Walt Schoenvogel, Blinn Foundation Board Chair. “We hope that this generosity will inspire others to give back to the community by giving the gift of an affordable education.”
The three academic scholarships are open to residents of Austin and Washington Counties.
The application deadline is March 31. The completed application must include one letter of recommendation, not from an immediate relative. Applicants must be full-time students with at least a 2.0 grade-point average. Students interested in the scholarships can visit the Blinn College Foundation website at https://foundation.blinn.edu.
The Blinn Foundation supports programs and activities that enhance the quality of education for Blinn College students and expand the educational opportunities for the entire community. While raising funds is an important function, the Foundation also seeks to heighten community awareness of the mission and accomplishments of the College and to promote excellence in education.
