“MOVIES IN THE PARK” LINEUP ANNOUNCED FOR SUMMER

The City of Brenham’s popular “Movies in the Park” lineup has been announced for this summer.

The first movie of the summer, Disney’s “Cars 3” will be shown at The Bluebell Aquatic Center on Thursday night, May 31st, sponsored by Briannas Fine Salad Dressing.  In “Cars 3”, race car Lightning McQueen suffers a severe crash while trying to compete with a younger rival named Jackson Storm.  Afterwards, McQueen embraces new technologies as he trains for a return to the racetrack.

On Thursday, June 21st at Hohlt Park, straight from the Disney vault will be “The Lion King”.  Sponsored by The Barnhill House Toys and Books, “The Lion King” is about a lion cub crown prince who is tricked by a treacherous uncle into thinking he caused his father’s death.  The lion cub flees into exile in despair, only to learn in adulthood his identity and his responsibilities.

“Despicable Me 3” will be shown on the big screen at Hohlt Park on Thursday, July 5th.  Sponsored by Brenham Fitness Center, “Despicable Me 3” continues the adventures of Gru, Lucy, their adorable daughters Margo, Edith and Agnes, and the Minions.

On Thursday, July 19th, Baylor Scott and White Medical Center will sponsor the showing of Disney’s “Coco” at Hohlt Park.  In “Coco”, a boy journeys into the Land of the Dead to seek forgiveness from his ancestors and lift a curse.

The final movie of the “Movies in the Park” series will be Disney’s “Little Mermaid” on Thursday, August 2nd at the Blue Bell Aquatic Center.  The Kids Klub of Brenham’s First Baptist Church is sponsoring “Little Mermaid”.

In the movie, a young mermaid strikes a deal with a sea witch to become human in order to land the man of her dreams, even though her father has forbidden her to swim to the surface.

All of the movies are rated “G” or “PG”, and will begin approximately ten minutes after sunset.  For those at Hohlt Park, families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

City of Brenham Community Services Specialist Crystal Locke says “Movies in the Park” could not happen if it weren’t for community supporters who sponsor the series, and bring popular movies to the park for an evening of free family fun.  Locke gave a special thank you to this year’s Presenting Sponsors, Waste Connections and radio stations KTEX 106 and KWHI 1280.  This is the ninth season for the City of Brenham to host summer movies under the stars in the City’s parks.
