Black remains in the Brazos County Jail, charged with capital murder in the shooting death of DPS Trooper Damon Allen.  Black is accused of killing Allen during a traffic stop Thursday afternoon on I-45 near Fairfield in Freestone County.

Black’s bond is set at $500,000.

Several reports say Black confessed to investigators that he shot and killed Allen during the traffic stop.  DPS officials have confirmed that the shooting was captured on the patrol car’s dashboard camera.

According to online jail records, Black, faced warrants for bond forfeiture on an evading arrest charge in Anderson County and for insufficient bond on aggravated assault on a public servant and evading arrest charges in Smith County.

Funeral services for Trooper Damon Allen will be held Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Mexia High School football stadium.

Governor Greg Abbott has ordered all state flags to fly at half-staff in honor of Allen.

  1. Here’s hoping for justice to be served swiftly, without some decades-long appeals process, for the admitted murderer of one of Texas’s finest. God be with the family of the Trooper. Hope the phoney-baloney PTSD/insanity claim I heard about gets shot down too.
