NAVASOTA SCHOOL DISTRICT APPROVES NEW TEACHER SALARY SCHEDULE

The Navasota School District approved a new salary schedule for all teachers for the 2015-2016 school year, which raises pay on every step of the scale by $2,000.

The Board of Trustees, in an attempt to retain qualified teachers, hopes that raising the salary will accomplish that goal, as well as set a goal to bring teacher salaries into a competitive market that was made during a summer planning session in 2014.

Budget planning for teacher’s salaries will be increased by $456,000 for the next school year.

In the past two years, the schedule for teacher’s salaries remained unchanged for teachers at $38,400, however, the annual teacher salary schedule for teachers with experience, from one to 26 years, were decreased from $359 to $814. The current salary for a teacher with 25 years experience is $52,288, and $53,102 for teachers with more than 26 year’s experience

The District had been attempting to stay competitive with College Station and Bryan Schools.

The $2,000 would bring NISD hire-in teacher salary equal with College Station ISD at $40,400 for no experience but with a bachelor’s degree, despite the fact the CISD offers $42,400 for teachers with Master’s degree.

The increase brings NISD's 2015-2016 teacher salary schedule to just $600 below Bryan ISD’s $41,000 salary for teachers with no experience, and the pay for NISD teachers with 25 or more years of experience increase to $54,288, which is only $262 below Bryan ISD’s $54,550.
