NAVASOTA TO ‘SWEEP’ CITY FOR JUNK VEHICLES

Navasota will soon rid itself of cars that are in violation of the city’s “junk vehicles” ordinance.

Beginning January 17th, a citywide sweep will take place in Navasota to remove junk vehicles- which the city defines as any vehicle that is "viewable from a public right of way has a expired registration sticker, is wrecked, dismantled or inoperable”.

Junk vehicles used to be dealt with on an individual basis, however a recent uptick in calls from homeowners complaining about junk vehicles in their neighbor’s yards caused the city to take action.

City officials will be issuing warning notices by the end of January. Official citations will be issued on February 10th, however the city says they will give citizens an extended period of time to amend the situation and vehicles will not be hauled away until March.

City officials say residents should confirm that their vehicles are registered and make sure “junk vehicles” are out of view from the street.

Anyone with any questions can call the city at (936) 825-6450.
