NEW CAMP COMING TO WASHINGTON COUNTY
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held, Tuesday, December 6, for the Brenham home of the state’s only Christian camp designed for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Camp Blessing will be located on 158 acres of land in the 9400 block of Palestine Road near Independence.
Organizers say they are planning to invest $4-million to renovate the property and construct four customized cabins.
This will be the first permanent facility for the camp for children with special needs, including: autism, Down syndrome and cerebral palsey.
Once completed, the camp will include canoeing, horseback riding, rope course, fishing, arts and crafts, music and other activities.
The new facility will including a 10-week summer season and a year-round ministry which would include: spring break, respite and retreat weekends.
Camp Blessing sells out each summer. Eight weeks of camp will be for children ages 7-21, one young adult week for ages 20-29 and one adult week for ages 22-53.
