NEW EXHIBIT OPENS SATURDAY AT CHAPPELL HILL MUSEUM

  

A new exhibit opens Saturday afternoon at the Chappell Hill Historical Society Museum.

According to museum officials, “The History of Woodworking in Chappell Hill,” presents both examples of home furnishings, home décor, and art pieces created in Chappell Hill or by artists who lived and worked in Chappell Hill from the mid-nineteenth century to the present.

Kathy Nichols, director of the Museum of Texas Handmade Furniture will give a presentation Saturday, placing 19th century woodworking in Chappell Hill into the greater context of German artisans and the Texas Biedermeier furniture tradition.

A reception will follow the exhibit opening at the museum, Saturday, from 1:00 – 4:00 PM.

Pieces on display include the woodworking tools of German immigrant Heinrich Christian Brandt, who rebuilt the historic Chappell Hill United Methodist Church after the great storm of 1900.

There are also examples from current artists in the region.

The Chappell Hill Historical Society Museum is free and open to the public from Wednesday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and Sunday’s from  1-to-4 p.m.

This exhibit will be on display through April 17th including during the Bluebonnet Festival, which is April 9th and 10th.
