NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT COMING TO HENDERSON PARK

Brenham City Council approved several purchases during their meeting today (Thursday).  Council approved the purchase of new playground equipment for Henderson Park.  The BCDC has budgeted $294,500 for improvements at the park this year.  The playground equipment will include swing sets and multiple climbing structures.  Public Works Director Dane Rau said that it will be located so that it will be visible from both the kitchen and the baseball field.  The equipment will be purchased from Gametime, who is offering a credit of $19,000 to the city, bringing the total cost down to $70,000.

Council also approved the purchase of two large trucks for the city.  A new tandem axle dump truck will be purchased for $100,000.  It will replace two older dump trucks that are expected to bring about $20,000 when they are auctioned off.  Council also approved the purchase of a new garbage truck and compaction body.  The new truck will cost the city $167,500 and will replace a 10 year old truck.  The garbage truck being replaced is expected to bring $30,000 at auction.

In other action, council approved the city holiday schedule for 2018.  The city calendar will have 11 observed holidays and 1 floating or “birthday holiday” for city employees.

Council also approved the annual increase of retirement annuities in the Texas Municipal Retirement System.  The increase is based on the consumer price index and enhances city retiree’s annuities.

Finally, council tabled action on a noise variance for St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  The fundraiser that the variance was requested for is being rescheduled.

  1. I hope someone keeps it cleaner than the playground equipment by the Cub baseball stadium. My grandchild was filthy after playing there this week.
