NEW SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTER OPENS

It was a busy morning Monday at the new Margaret Blizzard Senior Activity Center.  Today (Monday) is the first day of operations at the new center and volunteers were busy giving tours of the new facility.  Director Toy Kurtz talks about what activities are happening today:

The new Senior Center is located at 1301 East Tom Green Street, across from Brenham Junior High School, on property donated by John and Julie Kenjura.  The Washington County Healthy Living Association has spent the last forty years in a variety of locations in a “rented space”, including the Washington County Fairgrounds, the old Brenham Elementary and the Knights of Columbus Hall.

The grand opening and ribbon cutting are scheduled for later this month.  Kurtz explains what is coming up:

The new Senior Center has a large dining room and separate rooms for a library, computer lab, retail shop, and exercise.  The 18,000 square foot center was built totally with donations at a cost of over three million dollars.  No government funds were used towards construction.  For more information, visit seniorcenterbrenham.com
