No. 13 Buccaneers recover from slow start to beat Laredo, 3-1

Laredo scored the first seven points and stole the first set but Blinn bounced back to win in four

 

LAREDO, Texas – No. 13 Blinn College volleyball saw Laredo Community College score the first seven points of the match and steal the first set but the Buccaneers were able to get back into the match and eventually secure a 3-1 victory Friday evening in Laredo.

Blinn won by the score 19-25, 25-20, 25-14 and 25-17 to improve to 2-0 in Region XIV play and 10-6 overall.

Alexis Kingston put together a well-rounded performance with 16 kills, 10 digs, six aces and hit for a .310 percentage to lead Blinn. Ashleigh Traylor finished with seven kills and 11 digs. Danusia Sipa Borgeaud led the Buccaneers with 18 digs while Kylee Kaaihue dished out 32 assists.

The first set was a bumpy start for Blinn as Laredo came out scoring the first seven points and the Buccaneers couldn’t recover and fell 19-25. The second set is when Blinn started to settle in and play its game and tied the match with a 25-20 win.

Blinn put together its best set in the third and only allowed Laredo to score 14 points in a 25-14 victory. The Buccaneers sealed the victory with another strong set in the fourth and won 25-17.

Blinn will stay on the road for another conference match at Coastal Bend College on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. The Buccaneers will follow that up with a non-conference match against Cisco College at 3 p.m. in Beeville.
