NORMANGEE POLICE CHIEF ARRESTED AFTER STANDOFF

  

Normangee Mayor Gary Dawkins has confirmed Police Chief Charles Herford has been arrested following a standoff at his home where shots were fired.

Witnesses say the standoff began at 2:30 a.m. at home in the 400 block of N. 4th Street.

Texas Rangers, DPS, Normangee Police, Leon County Sheriff’s Office, and Madisonville Police Departments were all on the scene early this (Wednesday) morning.

Dawkins said Herford was taken into custody around 7 a.m. No injuries have been reported.

Normangee ISD cancelled all classes and extracurricular activities for the day.

The school district posted a notice on their Facebook page and sent messages to families notifying them about the cancellations, citing circumstances beyond their control.
