NORTH PARK STREET CLOSURE PLANNED FOR THIS WEEKEND

North Park Street near Hohlt Park is now scheduled to be closed for repairs this weekend, that is unless it rains.  TxDOT has confirmed that the contractor plans on making repairs to the bridge over Little Sandy Creek beginning at 8:00 PM this Friday until Monday morning.  A TxDOT spokesperson said that flooding in May of 2016 as well as the flooding with Hurricane Harvey caused washout areas under the bridge that need repair.  During the repairs, the roadway will be completely closed and drivers will need to detour to Blue Bell Road and the Highway 36 loop.  All of this is contingent on the weather, and at this point, there is a 40 percent chance of rain Saturday and Sunday.

  1. I am glad that this is a TXDot scheduled project and not a Brenham Public Works project. I am glad that TXDot has an effective street bridge maintenance program. I am glad that this report did not recommend the hiring of a Consultant to work with FEMA. I am glad to see a level of Expertise with TXDot that Tax Payers expect.

    1. A year ago everyone was complaining about the waste of money when TXDOT tore out a perfectly good overpass and put in a stoplight on the 36 loop. Now all the sudden they can do no wrong. Last week people were complaining that TXDOT took too long to fix the 36 bridge over Wolf Creek, but now that it’s open, everything is fine. Can’t you see how obvious it is to the rest of us that a small vocal minority have some kind of personal beef with ‘the city’? And for some reason, I can’t defend the city without being accused of either being city management or related to them, which I am not. It doesn’t have to be that everyone that supports the city and disagrees with you is corrupt or inept; it could just be that you are drawing an invalid conclusion from incomplete information. As in, why FEMA may be hard to deal with at the moment. They’re still dealing with the recovery from at least 3 major hurricanes, at least one major flood just in our area, and countless wildfire recoveries across the West. As well, the current govt. does not appear to be functioning well as many departments are being run on an ‘interim’ basis as their political appointee seats remain vacant. So maybe FEMA isn’t all that easy to deal with right now? Why does needing a FEMA consultant mean that ‘the city’ is entirely corrupt and incompetent?
