NOVEMBER SALES TAX REBATES RECEIVED BY CITIES & COUNTIES
November sales tax rebates for Washington County and the city of Burton increased this past month, while the city of Brenham, saw its payment drop.
Brenham’s November rebate was $559,072, which is a 2.9 percent decline from the payment last November, of $575,482.
For the year, the Brenham rebates are still running 4.4 percent ahead of the same time last year. This year’s rebates total $5,937,374, compared to $5,688,374 in 2016.
Washington County received a 6.4 percent increase to $244,948, from last November’s payment of $230,205.
For the year, the county has received $2,485,162, up 8 percent from 2016, which was $2,301,151.
Burton’s rebate this month saw an increase of 83.2 percent jump from 2016, receiving $7,408, compared to $4,076 last year.
The drastic increase is largely due to Burton raising its sales tax to 1.5 percent.
Its year-to-date sales tax rebates total $67,163, up 85 percent from last year’s $36,276.
The allocations were on sales made in September by businesses that report taxes monthly.
