NOVEMBER TRIAL DATE SET FOR BURLESON COUNTY CAPITAL MURDER

A November 18th  trial date has been set for a 37-year old Caldwell man, charged in the capital murder of 63-year old Bennie King.

A roommate found King’s body on June 28th and the investigation led to arrest of Nortorris LaMonte Deere of Caldwell.  He has remained in the Burleson County jail since then.

Deere pled not guilty to the charge in November.  Deere is also facing charges of robbery and burglary.

District Attorney Julie Renken said no plea agreement has been offered in the casen and says she has not made a decision on whether to seek the death penalty.

King was a one-time Caldwell city worker. An autopsy found that he was murdered by a blunt force trauma to his head.
