O’DONNELL CENTER TO HOST MUSIC PROGRAMS

The Blinn College Music Program will wrap up the semester with a series of concerts over the next several days at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

The Blinn College Percussion Ensemble will perform at 7 o’clock tonight (Saturday) at the O’Donnell Center.  The Blinn bands will perform at 5 p.m. Sunday at the O’Donnell Center.  On Tuesday, December 5th the Deep Blue Jazz Ensemble performs at 7 p.m. at the O’Donnell Center.  And the Blinn choirs will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 7th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church located at 305 West Third Street in Brenham.

All of the concerts are free and open to the public.  Todd Quinlan, Department Head for Blinn’s Music Program, said, “Since these kids work extremely hard all semester it is nice for them to have the audience and community let them know with their applause and attendance that they appreciate it and are rooting for them to succeed”.

In tonight’s (Saturday’s) 7 o’clock performance at the O’Donnell Center, The Percussion Ensemble, co-directed by Quinlan and Director of Bands Sarah Burke, will open the concert series with a performance that will feature mixed pieces featuring all the percussion instruments. The ensemble will also play on stools in a performance similar to the percussion group Stomp, which plays on buckets and chairs.

On Sunday, Blinn College’s Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band will take the stage at the O’Donnell Center and perform separately with each playing standard band pieces followed by holiday-inspired selections.  The Symphonic Band is directed by Assistant Director of Bands Kendall Prinz, and the Wind Symphony is directed by Burke.
