OFFICIALS ASKING PUBLIC TO HOLD OFF ON DONATIONS TO GUARDSMEN

Washington County and City of Brenham officials say they greatly appreciate the outpouring of hospitality the public is displaying to the National Guard members stationed out of the Firemen’s Training Center—but, are asking that citizens curtail their good will to the guardsmen for the time being.

Officials say the large numbers of people arriving at the Training Center with food and games and other items for the guard members have made it difficult for the guardsmen to move around.

While they greatly appreciate the kindness and generosity of the local citizens, they are asking that people refrain from taking donations of food, games and other items to the Firemen’s Training Center, until the city and county can better organize the situation.

The city will issue instructions on how to handle donations to the National Guard members in the near future.
