OIL DRILLING CUTTINGS CAUSE PARTS OF HIGHWAY 36 SHUT DOWN THIS MORNING

Parts Highway 36 between Caldwell and Somerville were closed down early Tuesday morning due to an 18-wheeler losing a load of oil drilling cuttings.

The spill occurred around 6am north of Lyons in Burleson County.

According to the Burleson County Emergency Management Coordinator, the road is down to one lane, and that about a 2 mile stretch of road is affected.

There have been reports of vehicles sliding off the road or pulling onto the shoulder of the road.

The clean-up is expected to take at least a couple of hours, and that the company that owns the well where the oil drill cutting came from, Sabalo Energy, has hired a third party to assist in the specialized clean-up, along with TXDOT, DPS, and Burleson County Environmental assisting.
