ONE OF THREE LEGAL CANNABIS DISPENSARIES TO BE IN SCHULENBURG

One of Texas’ first legal cannabis dispensaries will be located in Schulenburg.

The Texas Department of Public Safety announced earlier this month it had approved three companies to grow, process, and dispense low THC Cannabis to prescribed patients through Texas’ Compassionate Use Program.

DPS approved three companies out of the 43 applicants to open the dispensaries. The department established a panel to evaluate and score the top three- Cansortium Texas, Compassionate Cultivation, and Surterra Texas.

The DPS Media and Communications office confirmed Cansortium’s operations will be based in the Schulenburg area, according to the Fayette County Record.

The Texas Compassionate Use Act was enacted by the Texas Legislature in 2015. The bill requires DPS to create a secure registry of physicians who treat epilepsy for the purpose of prescribing low-THC cannabis to patients who have been diagnosed with intractable epilepsy. In addition, the bill requires DPS to license at least three dispensing organizations by Sept. 1, 2017.

  1. Seems easy for many to say that marijuana is a harmless drug and that if anything, it just makes one docile and passive. Apparently, if you’re against this, you just don’t know enough or are dismissed for being behind the times. But like all leftist attitudes, it’s about pleasing the short term wants of people to create dependence.
The newest argument yet for legalized possession and inhalation of pot includes potential relief from cancer effects and to treat glaucoma (we’re not talking an extract that is derived from the plant bottled available at a pharmacy, that’s not what this is new store is about). What you’ll find is that over 90% with a prescription use it for pain relief, they do not have cancer or glaucoma. In medicine, pain is what the patient says it is, end of story. If one has pain that nothing seems to help and has no known reason, pot is now on the table and that person will get a license for legal unrestricted drug use. I do no deny that pot has medical value, it does, but the detriment to our people far out ways any value. The drug will be highly abused, more than it already is.

Promoters of this policy call it love and compassion and many lib positions are pitched as such, but it’s surface level only. They are far from it. This is pure selfishness at the expense of our culture and children.

If you want a 75% increase in absenteeism at your work place, increased rates of welfare dependence and child neglect, increases in mental health disorders like schizophrenia, increased rates of high school and college drop outs due to lethargy, and increased rates of meth and crack dependency then a society of potheads is for you. All the while taxes, medical costs and the burden of the non pothead to pickup the slack go up at work and at home to pay for pothead lifestyles.
I read “change is coming” so often on liberal positions. Apparently the liberal is so arrogant to not only believe that they know best today but also that they know better than our forefathers. Many times they also know better than thousands of years of experience. Change can and many times is undone and what was once good can and many times is remade.

    1. I love your answer!! I am 37 years old and I have a plethora of health problems. I have rheumatoid arthritis which my doctor cannot slow down the progression. I have chronic, daily pain. Some days it is excruciating and some days it is not. Just about every joint in my body is affected. Because of my joints being damaged, my muscles hurt daily as well. I’ve even had cataract surgery! I COULD go on and on but I instead focus on God and His plan for me and my family. But even with all of my pain, I still wouldn’t choose to use cannabis to ease it. I feel as if the risks far outweigh the benefits. Plus I’m not going to use an illegal drug! And I also feel as if we become immune to the fact that it is an illegal drug, and for good reasons, that puts us one step closer to being immune to legalizing it for recreational use. After legalizing cannabis, then people will start with the next illicit drug that “isn’t so bad for you.” People are always going to want a little bit more. Our children should be our TOP priority. What kind of country, city, state are we handing over to them? God has blessed me and my family throughout the years. I feel lucky knowing Him and His word. God bless all of you.

    2. I’d like to learn more, Eric; would you mind citing the references behind all the facts you’ve laid out for us? Some folks just won’t accept the truth without some kind of evidence beyond hearsay. Thanks!

      1. Thomas, assuming you don’t get your news from Twitterbook, once you get past the big media spin articles that are telling you what to believe, to support marijuana use in this case, you can get to the legitimate information. This is no different than any other contentious issue we have these day though. Some of the references you asked about:

        1. Thanks, I wish all concerned were thoughtful enough to do similar research before adopting a position!

      1. Was Eve supposed to eat the apple…
Coca and Poppy au naturel as well, maybe we’ll see those at the local market in a few years as well if the same thought or lack thereof is kept up.

  2. I see quite a few of you who should really educate yourselves on the matter, maybe look into the science of the plant and how it works, aside from people just using it illegally to get “stoned”. Change is most definitely coming and we need it. I’m not exactly sure how well it’ll be handled, but things will fall into place accordingly. Fayette county is full of alcoholics. Why not let this small county take this big step toward something better, especially for those who may need it. People are going to do what they want anyway illegal or not, regardless of what any of you all think. Also, to compare alcohol to marijuana is asinine and sadly, laughable. Again, read up folks! You truly may be surprised in what you could actually learn. I’m all for it from not only a medical standpoint but a personal one as well. Knowledge is power!! Way to go Texas!!

  4. I see some people who should really educate themselves on the matter and look further into the science and healing powers of the plant, aside from using it illegally just to get “stoned”. Change is most definitely coming. Also, comparing marijuana to alcohol is completely ridiculous. Again, read up folks!! Fayette county is full of drunks, why not take this small step towards something better, especially for those who may need it. People are going to do what they want regardless of what any of you all think.
Not quite sure how the county is going to handle it, but things will fall into place accordingly. I’m all for it, from a (professional) medical and personal stand point. Way to go Texas!!

  5. I know an awful lot of people who want marijuana legalized. They all speak of the medicinal benefits for terminal cancer patients and children with epilepsy. They also recount the horrors of alcohol abuse and drunk driving. These very same people hit their pipe while they have a beer and then head out on the road. They want this legal so they can puff while they drive and claim it doesn’t affect them”like alcohol”. NEWSFLASH: It does alter their minds, reaction times….like alcohol. If anyone were to read something besides ‘High Times’ or ‘Mother Jones’ articles they would find studies that show marijuana is not harmless. There is currently no definitive test/level for impaired driving by marijuana. This has proved problematic in states with legalized marijuana. Marijuana affects people differently. Everyone doesn’t sit down and eat a cookie. If you are sober and you have someone who just smoked come in and start talking to you: you can tell immediately what’s going on. Alcohol is bad; marijuana is equally bad.

    1. You’re 100% right. Surprises me every time I see something that moves us closer to edge of a 3rd world country. A careless nation of potheads will surely do it.

    2. Seriously, such a sad comment.. So many Benefit from CBD oil, which you get no high from.. Children who have never gone a day without seizures have now gone to normal days able to eat on their own, have a play date and be a normal child for once.. So sad you are to judge so quickly without knowing all of the ways it does help and with what kind of people.. Have you sat and watched someone so sick from chemo, they can’t eat they are so sick nothing stays down.. I have a few times I don’t wish that on anyone. Have you ever seen a child with cancer unable to even communicate, yes that I have seen too she was only three years old.. It’s horrible, did you know that chemo kills more people than cancer itself? All you are thinking about is people getting “high” and driving around as if they are drinking alcohol.. So blinded by the real effects of a natural medicine that actually helps children, and adults.. Alcohol is man made, marijuana is grown naturally. You can’t compare the two at all.. It’s people like you who are keeping the sick from actually getting better or easing their pain.. Doctors prescribe 10mg oxycontin to eleven year Olds, is that what you approve of? A drug that is taking over America and killing more everyday? That’s to a child 11 years old let that sink in for a minute… Sounds like you prefer to put money in big pharma’s pocket, rather than actually help the sick.. I’m not saying go smoke blunts, joints, bongs, bowls everyday at all times, I’m saying if someone can benefit from a natural herb who are you to say how bad it is… Go pop your pills and stay in big pharma’s pocket.. Such a shame how blinded people really are now days.. Always preaching and never teaching…

  6. I think it should be legal. It is far less dangerous then alcohol . And other drugs. If used with caution. Plus it helps calms nerves. Helps you sleep . And helps lose weight . I say vote yes but also teach a class on safety of. Plus come down harder on harder drugs.

  7. #really

Please explain how the government can legalize an illegal drug that the court system benefits from in a non legal state for having it in possession during a traffic stop?
I do believe in having a legal prescription for any drug that helps the patient but if Fayette
County was picked by the DPS y’all better get Lobos some helpers because if this area already has serious problem with a prescribed prescription holder that is in legal possession to have a pill, liquid, etc. then distribute it to anyone or (sell) then make a routine traffic stop every week sure seems kind of like it’s a JOKE to me be selected in this county for a possible location of operation for (thc) i.e. Illegal Drug!!!
*Just my opinion and I’m sorry if I offended all the patients that do need help…

  8. What’ about people suffering with serve arthritis or lupus, the salve, come on people it out there but the citizen of Texas can’t get it. I’m sure if this would benefit the politicians then they would make it legal. I wonder how many politicians owns interest in these dispensaries ?????

    1. Lol you’re really funny. It’s gonna change slowly but surely, and there’s nothing you can to to stop the ganja express; this train is just starting to get rolling.

      1. The only thing rolling is the paper being used to illegally smoke it. That’s right, ILLEGALLY! You and your cronies must be under the influence.
