OVER 2000 BLINN STUDENTS EARN HONORS

More than 2,200 Blinn College students earned academic honors during the Fall 2016 semester, the College announced today.

Blinn named 908 students to its prestigious President’s Scholars List, including 477 who completed the semester with a perfect 4.0 grade point average (GPA). An additional 1,314 students earned placement on the Dean’s Scholars List.

To be named a President’s Scholar, students must earn a 3.75 GPA, complete at least 12 credit hours, and pass all their courses. Students must attain a 3.25 GPA and pass all their courses to earn Dean’s Scholar recognition.

“These students have earned distinction due to their exceptional work ethic and commitment to personal growth and achievement,” said Dr. Mary Hensley, District President/CEO. “Those values will serve them well as they transfer to elite four-year universities and embark on exciting career opportunities.”

In December, Blinn recognized approximately 300 graduates at its Fall 2016 commencement ceremony held at the Brazos Center in Bryan.

Blinn’s academic transfer rate of 39.5 percent ranks second in the state and far exceeds the statewide average of 22.0 percent. According to figures compiled by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s CollegeForAllTexans.com, out-of-district Blinn students save 44.3 percent compared to state residents at the average Texas public university and 82.5 percent compared to the average Texas private university.

In addition to Blinn’s low tuition and fees, the Blinn Foundation offers more than 200 endowed scholarships available to incoming and returning students from a wide range of backgrounds, majors and experiences. Blinn students and prospective students also can register for external scholarships and participate in grant programs.

Registration for 16-week and first eight-week Spring courses remains open through Jan. 16, with classes set to begin on Jan. 17. College officials encourage early registration for placement in high-demand courses and convenient scheduling.
