PACKED ROUND TOP TOWN MEETING ADDRESSES ORDINANCES

Over half the population of the small community of Round Top turned out this week for a public meeting over changes to the town’s Land Use Ordinance.

Those changes range from the height of buldings and parking regulations to lot size and antiques fair regulations.

Town Attorney Corey Bovey of Round Rock, says that 20 changes to the ordinance are unenforceable because of a lack of public hearings before they were adopted.

Mayor Barnell Albers says this week’s meeting is the first step in soliciting citizens’ input on the changes before the town council moves on the ordinances.

Albers says it will be long process, as every on of the 20 changes will require public hearings.

While most of the ordinances appear to be non-controversial, one that is garnering comment is an amendment requiring connection to the town’s wastewater system when a home or business is built or sold.

Albers says the town leaders “just want to get it legal and get it right.”

He goes on to say anyone with questions needs to email the town so they can be distributed to all council members and addressed at a special meeting that has yet to be scheduled.

The next regular meeting of the Round Top town council is set for Monday morning.
