PETA CONTINUES TO FIGHT A&M OVER FACEBOOK

A federal judge’s ruling last week could be a factor in a lawsuit filed against Texas A&M University by the animal rights organization, PETA.

PETA has filed a federal lawsuit against A&M, challenging the school's use of a filter on its official Facebook page.

PETA tells KBTX-TV, the filter automatically deletes visitor posts and comments if they contain words such as "PETA," "cruelty," "lab," and other terms associated with PETA's campaign against the school's use of animals in research for muscular dystrophy.

Last week, a U.S. District Judge ruled President Donald Trump violates the First Amendment when he blocks critics on Twitter.

PETA officials contend that, like President Trump's Twitter feed, Texas A&M's Facebook page is a forum open to the public.

PETA officials say the outcome of its lawsuit will have enormous implications for individuals and advocacy organizations that use social media in protest and public-awareness campaigns.

Texas A&M says it will vigorously defend itself against this lawsuit.

  1. This is just crazy. First of all, its A&M’s page, they can filter what they want to. Second, and the most important….Texas A&M has an incredible veterinary school where future veterinarians learn skills that are second to none. I have personal experience with them as a few yrs ago we took a beloved pet of 14 yrs there. The dog had heart problems and all local vets wanted to put her down. Thankfully a younger vet, who recently graduated from A&M suggested taking her there. This person actually called up there and informed them we were coming. We were met at the door by 1 veterinarian and 4 students who snapped into action like the little chihuahua was the president. They were so great, so understanding of our pain, so honest, and so so caring. Because of them and them alone we were able to put her on a cutting edge mixture of medication that actually gave her another year with us. Everything was exactly how they described and promised. The cardiologist who got out of bed at 1am that first night to see her actually gave us a direct number to reach him during that last year. I know PETA does good things, but this one is just wrong. I will never take another animal anywhere else and if PETA would actually do some homework and speak to people like me im sure they’d realize just how much good that school does for animals….and people!

    1. Well said, Troy. (You might want to do a little research and rethink your idea that PETA does good things”. )

    2. I guess you’ve never been to the lab to see one of the infamous ‘Cubical Cows.’
