PETROLEUM LEASES ISSUED FOR LAKE SOMERVILLE LAND

The Bureau of Land Management has issued controversial petroleum leases for land at Lake Somerville.

The Bureau has issued leases on nearly 1,400 acres of land at or under the lake.

Amid a slew of protests, including the City of Brenham and Texas Rural Voices, the government auctioned off the leases for just over $170,000.

The city council voted unanimously on a resolution requesting the property be withdrawn from government auction.

Lake Somerville is the City of Brenham’s sole source of water.  Local leaders say a contamination of the lake would be ‘catastrophic’ to the city.

  1. Government and greed go hand in hand . They couldn’t care less about our safety. Our food and water sources are contaminated with pollutants that most countries have BANNED.Glyphosate aka Round-Up pesticide is one of them. I see this town is slowly losing grips on the control and Agenda 21 is in full swing.

  2. In the 80s, they did slant drilling under the lake. Rig was there a long time.

  3. First of all; the government should not be competing with free enterprise. Second of all; the city of Brenham government did finally created some hoopla over this after the fact. After all of the public hearings. The same goes with the area state representative. The state representative opposed it also after the public hearings. Every entity if local government, from hired management to elected officials, has been silent until it was a done deal. This is the height of government deceit and malpractice.
