PLANS BEING MADE FOR COMMUNITY EDUCATION BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT

The Brenham Community Education Building, built in 1927, is the only remaining historic building in the oldest school district in Texas. Brenham ISD turned 140 years-old this year, and the Community Education building has been a staple of education in our community for nearly 90 of those years.

Because of the lives it touches, plans are being made to paint, landscaping, and general upkeep to give it the luster it so deserves, so a Community Education Building Beautification Bonanza will be held October 31 from 8:00am to 2:00pm.

Interested community members, families, businesses, and organizations can donate their time and effort for that morning to invest in a building that has invested deeply in our community.

There will be activities for the entire family or group, so visit www.brenhamcommunityed.com/bonanza to fill out the registration form to help prepare your group in advance.

There will be on-site tutorials from local businesses for those who want to learn how to paint, prep, clean, or landscape.

If you, your organization or business would like to participate, donate supplies, or give monetarily to this effort, then please contact the Brenham Community Education offices at 979-277-3895.

  1. the first one by far the oldest building of the BISD is still standing on east Alamo across from Volares. Check with Doug at the museum for original pictures.

  2. I am glad that there is finally some thought going into this historic building and site before the live oak trees are completely butchered and before the building is too far gone.

I wish the city and school could have callaborated and worked together and made this the city library instead of spending millions on the existing library and ending up with whatever. If this building would have oly become the library with classroom areas that could be shared with the school and library, it would have become a wonderful monument to our school, our education system and our city. This would have served the whole community.

It is time that we get elected officials and management that can make better decisions for the whole community and not selected areas such as the downtown area. When you see your elected offiicals and the management, you may want to remind them of their poor judgement, again.
