TEN CONFIRMED DEAD IN SCHOOL SHOOTING IN SANTA FE

Ten people are confirmed dead, numerous others wounded, in an early-morning school shooting at Santa Fe High School, south of Houston.

Police are confirming that 17-year old Dimitrios Pagourtzis, the suspected shooter was taken into custody.  Another student was detained but only as a person of interest.

Police say they also found a number of possible explosive devices, located both at the school, and at a site off campus, believed to be Pagourtzis’ home.

Governor Greg Abbott also confirmed during a press conference that 10 people were wounded in the shooting and are being treated at area hospitals.

Authorities were called to the school shortly before 8 a.m.

Santa Fe Police, the Galveston County Sheriff's Office, DPS deputies, FBI and ATF agents all responded to the scene.

Witnesses say at about 7:45 a.m. fire alarms went off and students fled their classrooms.  Witnesses say Pagourtzis opened fire on an art class.

Students who were evacuated from the school were bussed to a nearby community gymnasium where they were reunited with their family.

Santa Fe is approximately 35 miles south of Houston with an enrollment is about 1,400 students
