PRIMARY VOTING TODAY

Some blustery cold and wet weather will be greeting Texas voters today (Tuesday) as the Lone Star State has the first primary this election year.  There  are some closely watched races.

The state’s Democrats are expected to nominate State Senator Wendy Davis, who they hope will break the Republican Party’s complete hold on all statewide offices for the past 20 years.  Her Republican opponent will likely be Attorney General Greg Abbott.  Incumbent U.S. Senator John Cornyn is getting a challenge from several candidates but the most prominent is Congressman Steve Stockman, a TEA Party favorite.  The Democrats are looking for a winning candidate for the Texas U.S. Senator seat, but they hope it is not Kesha Rogers.  Rogers has made a strong showing the polls but state Democrats are urging voters not to vote for her because she wants to impeach President Obama and belongs to the political cult of Lyndon LaRouche,   Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst is fighting for reelection in a multi-candidate field.  Run offs are likely for many of the offices.

There are some contested races in Washington County.  Incumbent County Court at Law Judge Matthew Reue is getting a challenge from Assistant District Attorney Eric Berg.  Incumbent Precinct Two Justice of the Peace Doug Cone is getting a challenge from Dennis Todd.   Incumbent Precinct Three Justice of the Peace Roy May is getting a challenge from retired Marine Corps Capt. Ken Tofel.  There is a three way race to replace retiring James McCune as the Precinct Four Justice of the Peace.  Attorney Bill Kendall,  banker Val Kiecke, and Robin Luedtke are all vying for the position.
