Marvalette Hunter of HuntJon, LLC, developer for the proposed Belle Tower Senior Housing, addresses concerns from the public over the project.

A Senior Housing project near downtown Brenham that appeared “dead in the water” last summer has been revived.

The 76 unit Belle Towers Senior Housing Project, planned on North Market Street, has been approved for the  tax credits sought by the developer, HuntJon, LLC.

The cost of the project is projected to be $6 million dollars, with a completion date of March of 2016.

HuntJon was seeking $750,000 in federal housing tax credits for the three story apartment complex, but was not funded by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs back in August. However, since other funded projects were cancelled, the tax credits became available for Belle Towers.

The proposed site of Belle Towers will be on a 2.5 acre tract bordered by N. Market, Cottonwood and Liberty Streets. During Brenham City Council meetings about the project last summer, some residents of the area expressed concern that the building would be too large in an already-crowded area, making emergency vehicle access difficult.

KWHI contacted a representative of HuntJon, LLC, Marvalette Hunter for comment, and was told that she would prefer to wait until the project is under construction, saying that she would have a better idea of the project's cost and scheduled completion time.
