PUBLIC HEARING ON NEIGHBORHOOD BUSINESS DISTRICT TABLED

The public hearing scheduled for Monday’s meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission on the Fitness facility on First Street was tabled.  The owner of the building and the tenant had requested the fitness facilities be added to the list of permitted business in the new Neighborhood Business District.  Neighbors in the area have complained about patrons of the already operating fitness facility parking along the street.  City Council approved the Neighborhood Business District in July of last year and eliminated any parking requirements for businesses in the District.  The public hearing was rescheduled for the February 26th Planning and Zoning meeting.  More discussions are currently taking place between the city planning office, the owners of the facility and Brenham Main Street.

In other action, the Planning and Zoning Commission amended the signage requirements for a zoning change.  In the past, the person requesting a change was required to post a 4 foot by 4 foot sign on the property with all of the information about the request.  Most of these signs did not handle the weather well, so now the city will post a metal sign listing only the requested change and a phone number to call for more information.

The commission also amended the wording on the appointment and terms of office for the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Adjustments.  The changes clarify that members on the boards live inside the city and that they cannot serve on both boards at the same time.

All items approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission, except for lot replats, will go before the City Council for their approval.

  1. When I bought my business I had to build and pay for my own parking lot for my customers. I even pay property taxes on the parking lot improvement every year. So now, my taxes are going to pay for another persons parking lot that they don’t even pay taxes on. Even if I rent my building out, I can’t compete with these political unfair business practices. This is bad political and economical moves by the city.
