RABIES FOUND IN SKUNK AND FOX

Two animals, a skunk, which was destroyed near Oil Field Road and on the same day, a fox, which was destroyed near Pledger Road were, according to the Department of State Health Services and Washington County Sheriff Otto Hanak, both tested positive for rabies.

If you believe that you or someone else may have come in physical contact with either of these animals, please contact the Washington County Dispatch Center Non-Emergency number at 979-337-7272 or the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 979-277-6251.

Sheriff Hanak wants to remind citizens that it is very important to make sure your animals are currently vaccinated against rabies.

  1. The problem is we have no real animal control in the county. I know of a small subdivision off long point road where the people have dogs that just breed as fast as they can, run wild and I know they aren’t getting their shots. This just contributes to this problem.
