RAIN IS EXPECTED TO ADD MORE WATER TO LAKE SOMERVILLE

More rain is in the forecast for the Brazos Valley, meaning the long standing drought may be coming to a complete end.

Lake Somerville recently achieved full levels and the surrounding bodies of water have also risen.

Lee County property owners say the recent Memorial Day weekend rains have many of their stock ponds overflowing and many of the nearby creeks have been flowing out of their banks.

Lake Somerville continues to receive water from the watershed after the rains, and Emmtt Attaway, the lake reservoir manager says the lake levels have risen enough that the gates are open and the level is at 238.68.

Jack Bilberry, a volunteer at the Lake says the rains coming up will mean a very good Father’s Day weekend.

Forecasts from the National Weather Service say there is an 80 per cent chance of sometimes heavy rain later in the day (Monday), and possibly more throughout the week.
