RANGERS ACQUIRE PHILLIES’ ACE HAMMELS

The Texas Rangers have agreed to a trade Wednesday night with the Philadelphia Phillies for left-handed ace Cole Hamels for a slew of prospects.

COLE HAMELS PROFILETop catching prospect Jorge Alfaro, left-hander Matt Harrison, outfielder Nick Williams and minor league right-handers Alec AsherJake Thompson and Jerad Eickhoff will be shipped to the Phillies.

The Rangers also get left-handed reliever Jake Diekman.

Hamels threw a no-hitter over the Cubs at Wrigley Field, Sunday. He is 6-7 with a 3.64 ERA in 20 starts this season.

Hamels is 114-90 with a 3.30 ERA in close to 10 seasons with the Phillies. He’s made at least 28 starts in each of the past eight seasons, and he’s had five straight seasons with at least 200 innings.

Hamels rejected a deal earlier this week that would have brought him to the Houston Astros.

  1. Hamel turned down deal with the Astros, first game he pitches in Dallas in August he’s going to regret that decision. Juice Park, cool, air conditioned, comfortable. Ball Park at Arlington- 105 and no breeze. Dumb decision Hamel!
