Washington County READ is looking for people who are willing to share their personal stories about Hurricane Katrina as part of the READ reception being held on October 18th.city-of-refuge-2

Community members will have their stories featured in a multi-media display. Whether they took people into their homes, had to relocate themselves, or came into contact with those effected in hurricane, the READ program is looking for people who are open to sharing their experiences.

The Washington County READ program is an offset of the Lifetime Learning organization. The program encourages all members of the community to participate in reading the same book. This year, the novel chosen is Tom Piazza’s City of Refuge. The novel follows two New Orleans families- one black and one white- as they confront how the Hurricane Katrina changes their lives.

The culmination of the 8th Annual Washington County Read, will be a free reception, open to the public, at Unity Theatre with refreshments, a dramatic reading, presented by Unity Theatre, and an interactive discussion with Honorary Chairs: Rev. Randy Wells, Executive Director of Faith Mission, and Dr. Walter Jackson, Superintendent of Brenham ISD.

To share your story, contact Carol Muegge at 979-251-1525 or visit lifetimelearningbrenham.org.
