RED CROSS SETS UP CENTER IN SOMERVILLE — WASHINGTON COUNTY NEXT

The Red Cross has announced the opening of a temporary family assistance center in Burleson County.

The center will be open today (Thursday) from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Somerville Historical Museum, 651 Ave. A in Somerville.

More than a dozen Red Cross volunteers are on hand to help storm victims complete needed paperwork to begin the recovery process.

Officials say this is not to be confused with an already established Red Cross office.

Nate Kidwell, disaster program specialist with the Bryan regional Red Cross, says “the case workers are trying to help establish a long-term recovery plan, not just give out free stuff.”

Kidwell said The Red Cross plans to host an assistance center in Washington County by the end of the week, though a firm date and location have not yet been set.
