REV. SAM DUREE PASSES AWAY WEDNESDAY

  

Longtime Brenham resident Rev. Sam Duree has died. Duree died Wednesday at the age of 87 in Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Brenham.   He was pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Brenham from 1978 to 1984.  He was voted as Man of the Year in 2004 by the Chamber of Commerce.  Duree was active in numerus organizations including the Washington on the Brazos State Park Association, Unity Theatre and the Boys and Girls Club.  He also built birdhouses in his garage, which he sold in past years to raise over $100,000 for Methodist seminaries.

Viewing will begin Friday at noon at Brenham Memorial Chapel.  A private family graveside service will be held Saturday morning.  A celebration of Rev. Sam Duree’s life is scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday at Brenham’s First United Methodist Church.
