ROSEDALE NURSERY RECEIVES OFFICIAL HISTORICAL MARKER
A large crowd on Saturday attended the dedication of an Official Texas Historical Marker Saturday morning at 10am.
The Rosedale Nursery, located at the corner of FM 577 and Rosedale Drive was the site of a dedication. Pastor Jon Siemsglusz gave the opening invocation, and Katie Krueger sang "The Star Spangled Banner."
Washington County Historical Commission Chairman Dr. Wilfred O Dietrich also address the audience on the significance of the Marker.
Also in attendance was Arthur Geick and Edwin Schmidt. Geick was instrumental in putting together the information that lead to the securing of the Rosedale marker, and allowed the state to use the home address until a marker location could be agreed upon.
The Texas Historical Commission has recognized Rosedale Nursery as a significant part of Texas history by awarding it an Official Texas Historical Market, being designated an important and education part of local history.
A subject qualifies for a marker if two basic criteria are met: historical significance and age. Historical significance is established by reviewing its role and importance in local history, and the age requirement depends on the topic.
